Lake of Bays council presented the long-standing service award for 25 years of service to Coun. Nancy Tapley in the council meeting held Tuesday, Oct. 10.
The municipality organized an open house where community members could stop by the municipal office and join Tapley on this special day. Refreshments and cake were served after the ceremony, where Mayor Terry Glover highlighted Tapley's career.
"Nancy, you were a trailblazer and still are since (you took your seat )on the council in 1998. In the early days, Nancy was a minority in politics, a woman speaking up and speaking out."

"We've debated cell towers, official plans, hunting boundaries, tornadoes, flooding, COVID measures, closing beaches and many other topics, and I must say Nancy did a great job," said Mayor Glover.
Community members thanked Tapley for her public service and work to preserve the township's natural environment.
"What I value about you is that you clearly understand that the environment is the economy here in this region," said Lake of Bays Association president Wendy Gibson. "I have always appreciated that you understand how much the seasonal and permanent populations need each other and how they are intertwined."
When it was Tapley's turn to speak, she highlighted those who worked for the township.

"Currently, I have such magnificent staff and a very supportive council around me," said Tapley. "I'm very glad to have the honour to serve the people."
Many things can happen in 25 years, and Tapley's experience is extensive.
"Nancy has participated on many township committees, external boards and organizations over the years, including but not limited to the library board and the chamber of commerce," said director of corporate services and clerk Carrie Sykes. "She was integral in creating the Heritage Advisory Committee at the municipality in 2004 and has played a vital role in the administration of this committee, sitting as chair for the last 19 years and being instrumental in the designation of 13 heritage properties."
Over the years, Tapley has fulfilled the role of both acting mayor and deputy mayor, among many other achievements.
Tapley has been in public service for a long time, but there is more to come.
